Kati Basti

Procedure :
The procedure for Kati basti, a type of Ayurvedic therapy, typically involves the following steps:
  • The therapist will begin by preparing a warm oil blend, which may include herbs and essential oils that are chosen based on the specific health concerns being addressed.
  • The client will lie face down on a massage table, and the therapist will use a small amount of oil to massage the lower back and spine area.
  • The therapist will then create a small hollow in the skin over the lower back using dough or a similar material.
  • Warm oil is poured into the hollow, and the therapist will use gentle massaging techniques to help the oil penetrate the skin.
  • The client will then be covered with a warm blanket or other type of wrap to help retain the heat and allow the oil to penetrate the tissues.
  • The oil is left to sit on the skin for a period of time, typically between 30 and 60 minutes.
  • After the therapy is complete, the therapist will remove the oil and clean the skin.
Benefits :
  • Increases the circulation in the region, as the herbal oil gets deeply absorbed into the skin, and both nourishes and strengthens the muscles and nerves.
  • Pacifies one of the primary sites of Vata, relieving pain, soreness, and tension and restoring flexibility.
  • Relieves chronic lower backaches and painful muscle spasms, stiffness, and degenerative problems.
